In this Discovering Nature Nearby educational program, JABG invites you to learn about one of Florida’s most fascinating—and endangered—residents: the gopher tortoise!
Join us at Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens for a special installment of our Discovering Nature Nearby educational series: Tortoise Tales! Spend a morning in nature learning about one of Florida’s most fascinating—and endangered—residents: the gopher tortoise. This fun and educational event will feature a guided, slow-paced trail walk led by Adam Hoyles, who will share insights about gopher tortoise behavior, habitat, and conservation efforts. You’ll even pass by active burrows and learn how these gentle creatures play a vital role in the local ecosystem.
Accessibility Note: this educational tour will involve walking on natural trails, some of which may not be fully ADA accessible due to uneven terrain. However, there will be ADA accessible portions of the program, such as the initial gathering at the picnic area.
